Wait, what? another weight loss calculator! “I laughed as I was writing the formula for the free New Leaf Body Shaper app because accuracy was the key objective,” said KP New Leaf’s Marketing Director. “I could already hear the sceptics in my head, and I can’t do much about them, but for me as a programmer, getting the formula right was paramount.”

New Leaf Wellness Resort has been operating since 2006. First as New Leaf Detox Resort Samui, and in 2020, it changed its name to New Leaf Wellness Resort. “Honestly, we did this because Google hates the word ‘detox’. Plus, it means different things in different parts of the world,” says KP.

“One guest with the issues can sit by the pool for 28 days, and another can do all the activities. The result always equals the effort given. These two guests won’t get the same result,” said KP

“We don’t keep guest records by name. We have their sex, age, arrival weight, medical condition or any mobility restrictions. We also collect the guests’ departure weight and location.

The free New Leaf Wellness Body Shaper app breaks down each category by sex, four age groups and nine main questions.

“We took the top nine most relevant issues affecting weight loss outcomes to formulate the main questions. There are four age groups; 21-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 50+. There could have been more age groups tightening up the results. These may come in future updates.

When I looked at the age groups, we didn’t get many guests under thirty (30), so the first age group formula is based on 30-39, but I didn’t want to exclude anyone younger as we get guests occasionally in their twenties.” KP said.

“A twenty-one (21) year old woman and thirty-nine (39) year old women arriving from the same environment with the same lifestyles and issues will naturally get different results.“

The Body Shaper could be a highly complex app if the age groups were more defined. “For sure,” said KP. “Don’t rule out updates as we have the data, and we’ve now started separating medications. Some meds slow weight loss more than others.”

There are thousands of different issues that can affect weight loss and wellness. Every person will get different results. Not only that, the same person can come two years in a row, do the same programme and get better results on the second visit.

“We are anticipating adding more questions related to vaccines and post-Covid illness,” said KP. “I have seen first hand damage to the adrenal gland and lungs caused by both the vaccine and the virus. Fatigue and autoimmune issues will be the next ‘wave’ of issues we will see in the resort”, said KP.
